Sete Gibernau, fast at mugello test
After departing from the motogp class in 2006, Sete Gibernau has been testing at Mugello this week and has been lapping at very impressive times. Sete managed to clock a time of 1min 50.5secs on race tyres, proving he still is fast enough for Motogp. Marco Melandri managed a 1min 51.1 second lap at this years mugello race in June and Casey Stoner set a new lap record of 1min 50.003.
Gibernau demonstrated his physical fitness at the Mugello test, as he lapped consistently in the low 1min 51s, with temperatures reaching 30c and track temperatures upto 50c.
If the rumours of Melandri leaving Ducati to find a seat at Kawasaki are true, then Gibernau will most likely be the one to replace the Italian. Although Kawasaki have confirmed that Melandri will not race their bike to replace the injured John Hopkins.
Sete said: “I hope that this result will also spur on Marco (Melandri) and Toni (Elias). In the last months we have worked hard to improve the GP8 but I think I can now say that it is at a good level and we hope that they too can get the most out of the machine in the coming races.”
